Archaeological Museum of Myrina Lemnos

The Archaeological Museum of Lemnos, operating since 1961. It is a three-storey building located in Romeiko Gialos, near the High School. The three-storey neoclassical building of the Museum of Lemnos, built at the beginning of the 20th century during the Turkish occupation, it was the Turkish Government House.

In 1939 the castle was sold by the community, in Pallimniako school fund on the condition that the public donated to house the Archaeological Museum. In the years between the wars, the building housed the findings of Italian excavations on the island. During the Second World War the building suffered serious damage. Repairs were completed in 1959 and the first re-opening happened in 1961.

In 1991 repairs were new and second re-exhibition of its collections was inaugurated in 1993. The museum presents the historical development of the island, from chololithiki period until the Roman period. It also houses donations, collections and antiquities of Imvros. The galleries of the museum are elegant and attentive. It seems, that were organized on the basis of the interests of the average visitor and the ambition to leave there without any questions ..
